Holidate (2020) Movie Review

Worth A Mention As A Mood Booster

New on Netflix, Holidate is a title we're used to. The movie follows 2 misfits, Sloane and Jackson, on their 'holidate' journey, whatever that means I am still not sure. It's something like a friends with benefits type of thing, without benefits, and we can't really call them friends. They basically agree to be each other's dates on every holiday, so they don't have to worry about picking a date, acting normal, you know.. all the dating stuff.

First of all, this is the first Emma Roberts performance I really enjoyed since "It's Kind Of A Funny Story", which was also a great movie by the way. Anyways, Roberts (as Sloane) is a grown woman roaming arround in her pyjamas and Jackson, well we don't know much about Jackson. So uhm, the 2 misfit meets at a mall, both trying to return their presents for money. Then, they get into a word duel, they call it a tie, and then... they become holidates. The couple gets together for every holiday through the year. But can they stay as holidates? Well, you know the answer my friends, you know the answer.

Our cast is for sure a fit for the movie. I mean, Andrew Bachelor (as Neil), the vine king of the modern world, is just a fit for any christmas comedy if you ask me. In the end, in this romantic comedy, he is the comedy if you ask me. As for Luke Bracey (as Jackson), well this might be the first romance I didn't hate him, and it's even a holiday feelgood type of movie soo, cool man, keep it up.

The movie doesn't offer the worlds to you, it's pretty straight up. It offers you a smile, and some laugh after 103 minutes, and it basically does exactly that. It's not a movie to watch and wonder if it can win the best picture or anything, but it's worth a watch for what it is if you ask me. Although I must add a few words about the shooting of this movie. The movie looks like a documentary on humans. It's just a camera, running arround, the camera is just shooting like a tourist on New York City.

Overall, "Holidate" offers you a good time if you watch it with no major expectations. It won't get a super high rating from us, since it's not original, merely a cliche, and offers nothing new for it's genre, but for their effort to get out of that box and become something neutral is worth the respect. So, what'ya doing on Christmas then?
