Role Models (2008) Movie Review
A movie looks like a mainstream cheesy American comedy in the first
look, "Role Models" actually offers quite a funny experience instead. It
was actually nice to see a comedy movie that doesn't force you to laugh
at meaningless car jokes, but instead makes you laugh, while
succesfully transmitting it's main message, Do what you want to do with
your life.
Firstly, the plot is actually not bad at all. Even though it's just a comedy, character development mostly follows more of a drama pattern and grows with the story itself. Story expands a little too slow in some parts, a little too fast in some, but in the end, it expands and it doesn't feel forced so that's all good. Cast has real good acts in this comedy, but I will mention 2 names here. Banks and Mintz-Plasse, both show everything they got in this. Even though Banks doesn't even have a major part, she still amazes. And Mintz Plasse, doesn't surprise and manages to make you love his character easily.
Yet here I must stop and point out a few down points. The movie is not unique, well not a cliche either, but it's still not a movie to remember and watch again. Also, some parts may sound offensive to women and kids to some people, which I felt time to time in this one. And in general, it's not really the poster film of the genre, so it doesn't become a perfect movie, while keeping it's cool.
Technically, it's a pretty good shooting. Lighting is vividly; yet done nicely. Soundtracks are not making you feel like drowning in the ocean, yet doesn't makes the movie boring by not being there.
To sum up, the film follows the main path with the kids, yet still, gives you it's messages, and such a good time on the road. Just a thing, you can't ride this path twice, it's easily forgettable.
