Good On Paper (2021) Movie Review

Image
In reading order, images belong to Netflix, Netflix, Netflix, Netflix. We do not own any of the images and we do not claim any right on them. Okay, so in today's world, where everyone with a little bit of money, or a moderate Instagram fame can shoot a movie, there's no need to review every single thing that's out there. Simply because, well, we can't watch them all to begin with, but we also shouldn't, since cinema is something sacred and most of these turn out to be overfunded biopics with no sense of  reality, which is not something we should be promoting by writing. Good On Paper, is not that, it seemed like. First of all, just as I saw the title, I said to myself, yeah, it kinda is good on paper though. I mean, Iliza Shlesinger, pretty good comic right? And she also wrote the thing, so it will be pretty good then I say to myself. Anyways, after talking to myself on spot right then and there, I realise to watch it, see what the fuss is about. In the en...

The Secret: Dare To Dream (2020) Movie Review

Image
In reading order, images belong to Amazon, Netflix, Netflix, Netflix. We do not own any of the images and we do not claim any right on them.   Okay, there's no denying that I am a bit obsessed with Katie Holmes right, let's get this out there. I mean c'mon, she is the Rachel from Batman Begins. I would watch the movie just to catch up with Katie to be honest, but still, let's just get past the fanboy stuff and actually talk about her acting in this one. Starring Katie Holmes, who we all adore, and Josh Lucas, well, Josh Lucas and directed by Andy Tennant, which most of you will know for Fool's Gold (2008) or maybe from Hitch (2005) which was a way better title but also was trapped in views front. In any case, we're here to talk about his latest (Well, it's been a year but I just got a chance to watch it so, yeah) work The Secret: Dare To Dream, so let's do that, let's talk the secret.   First of all, it's really easy to see Katie Holmes ...

Just Say Yes (2021) Movie Review

Image
Bad. In reading order, images belong to Netflix, Netflix, Netflix. We do not own any of the images and we do not claim any right on them.  Wow, I never thought I would ever say this, but I watched a bad movie. Yeah, I know that's not the case, but it sure feels good to imagine. Welcome back to CineMortals mortals, today we're going with yet another bad movie, because that's just fun and I love watching these! Welcome to the first ever review speedrun. Just Say Yes is a romantic comedy, following the adventures of mighty Lotte. Lotte is working in a TV channel. She is the "I wanna be married, because, because" type. So when her boyfriend of 5 years shoots the holy and sacred question, she just says yes! But, before the actual wedding, Alex the boyfriend gets cold feet and just storms out from her life, leaving her stranded and, well alone. Like that wasn't enough for our sweet Lotte, the breakup is also aired, on live TV because someone forgot to pull the plu...

A Week Away [A Musical] (2021) Movie Review

Image
Cool Kids Pray, So Should You In reading order, images belong to Netflix, Netflix, Netflix. We do not own any of the images and we do not claim any right on them.  Starring Kevin Quinn and Bailee Madison, A Week Away, A Musical is a Netflix movie. A lot of a there. Anyways, A Week Away features some really decent tunes yes, but starting off, let's point out that it is a pro-christian propaganda movie at some level as well, so keep that in mind when you read our review on it. Welcome back mortals, feel lost on Netflix and wondering if this is the one for you? Perfect, we have just the review for you today. A Week Away, in a nutshell, follows Will (That's Kevin Quinn) on his mighty adventures leading him to Jesus. The musical starts off with Will stealing a cop car for some reason, some good reason we never got to know. (Or that I forgot, it's not really a movie to remember, you see) Anyways, when the cop catches him with the car he stole, I think, he gets caught and is kic...

Caught By A Wave (2021) Movie Review

Image
Pretty Dark, Pretty Good In reading order, images belong to Netflix, Netflix, Netflix. We do not own any of the images and we do not claim any right on them.   Directed by Massimiliano Camaiti, and starring Elvira Camarrone with Christian Roberto, Caught By A Wave is an Italian movie. The movie follows Sara, a young adult battling with muscular dystrophy. Sara is on the edge of life, and wants to experience nice things before she... there's no cure to that you see, the best scenario is a wheelchair. So she goes to a summer camp type of place, but for sailing. She meets the dreamy boy that'll soon become pretty important for him, a young adult named Lorenzo. She doesn't tell him that she has this ilness right away though, or never untill he finds out, to be more clear. As she's trying to look like a normal, regular girl, her parents tell Lorenzo the whole story, for some reason. So, after he finds out, he gets confused about what to do. He likes Sara, but will he love...

The Map Of Tiny Perfect Things (2021) Movie Review

Image
Surprisingly Good, Surprisingly Amusing Meet Mark, a hyperenergetic teen who just loves to mess arround. There's a catch though, he lives the same day over and over. Every single day of his life is the last one repeated. He knows exactly what will happen, exactly what people will say, will do. (Yes, like the Groundhog Day, exactly like that) (Yes, also like the Edge Of Tomorrow, well, minus all the war stuff) Mark is a teen with a perfect family that he has problems with. He is mortal enemies with his sister, like every teen in the world, and he's angry at his father for not making more money. Still, Mark is a really good kid, and a really good person. He just has that thing, the one with living the same day over and over. Just when he thinks he's the only non-dreamer in the world, Margaret happens. Margaret is a girl of his dream, since she is also a non-dreamer. They start a friendship and become more than that real soon. Well, to Mark at least. Though Margaret has other...

Squared Love (2021) Movie Review

Image
A cliche, but there's more! Actually, not really. Squared Love of Netflix, also knows as Milosc do kwadratu, was a Netflix suprise for sure. The movie is starring Adrianna Chlebicka and Mateusz Banasiuk. The movie follows a classic romantic feel good vibe with a standart, strict plot, totally open for cliches. (And you know how much we love those!) In the end, we kinda had to watch it just for that. Anyways, the movie follows Monika and Enzo on their journey called acting. Enzo is a womanizer, whatever that means. Monika is a hardworking, papa loving, trust giving angel/teacher. Monika is teaching a class as her day job, but that's not enough to pay her father's debt to some mafia thug, so she also becomes an actress. (Yep, just like that) She shoots photos for magazines, and acts in ads mostly. She's not happy being an actress though, because she thinks her father wouldn't be so happy about that, for.. some reason. So as expected from a romantic cliche, she has t...

Chemical Hearts (2020) Movie Review

Image
Starring Austin Abrams and Lili Reinhart, Chemical Hearts is not just a movie about love. Henry, our eyes and ears, is a high school senior with an ability for writing. He is the kind of person who needs to write what he feels to know what he feels. When Henry's senior year starts, he has nothing in mind but becoming the editor of school newspaper. On his interview, he meets Grace, the transfer student, also a senior, and also has a magical touch for writing. When their teacher offer the position to both of them together, Henry wants to know Grace a bit more. So, with a basic "hey" from Henry, our poetic romance begins. Henry falls for her, but she has much more in her plate than he knows. Chemical Hearts gives us a new perspective for love and loss. The movie is based on the book "Our Chemical Hearts" by Krystal Sutherland. The screenplay was written by the director himself, Richard Tanne.  With it's 93 minutes runtime, Chemical Heart is not a minute longe...

Brittany Runs A Marathon (2019) Movie Review

Image
Brittany, even though she doesn't like herself, is everyone's best friend. Everyone's "girl" if you may. She doesn't really care about her weight but she also is not that comfortable living a rather unhealthy life. With all the daydrinking, partying and most of all, toxic friends, she is mostly alone in the life, against all the judgements. Her so called best friend, Gretchen, is really, hard to like. She is a lost cause in all meanings you see. Then one day, when she was crying out loud, really loud indeed, her neighbour, Catherine (Michaela Watkins) hears her, not so surprisingly, and offers a helping hand, offering her to join their running group. Brittany (Jillian Bell) of course, rejects. But in the end, she doesn't have much money to think of something else like a gym, so she decides to try running a block. Then, after her glorious victory, she makes up her mind and sets a new goal for herself, running New York City Marathon. Though, with such a tox...

Holidate (2020) Movie Review

Image
Worth A Mention As A Mood Booster                                image by Netflix 2020 New on Netflix, Holidate is a title we're used to. The movie follows 2 misfits, Sloane and Jackson, on their 'holidate' journey, whatever that means I am still not sure. It's something like a friends with benefits type of thing, without benefits, and we can't really call them friends. They basically agree to be each other's dates on every holiday, so they don't have to worry about picking a date, acting normal, you know.. all the dating stuff. First of all, this is the first Emma Roberts performance I really enjoyed since "It's Kind Of A Funny Story", which was also a great movie by the way. Anyways, Roberts (as Sloane) is a grown woman roaming arround in her pyjamas and Jackson, well we don't know much about Jackson. So uhm, the 2 misfit meets at a mall, both trying to return their presents for money. Then, they ge...

Happiest Season, On It's Way

Image
Happiest Season Premiere Details  image by CTMG, Inc  So you've also, probably heard about the upcoming "Happiest Season" starring Mackanzie Davis (Blade Runner) and Kristen Stewart (Twilight). The movie also have some other giant names in the cast as well. Dan Levy, Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, and others. This post is to give some further information about the movie.   The upcoming Happiest Season will premier on December 25th, in the holiday season, and on Hulu only.  Today, after Hulu's announcements, that got confirmed once again.  So, one thing, for me, is for sure, the movie will be extreme. Either extremely good, or the other way arround. That is, of course based on no solid lead, except for my bias about the director Duvall. You see, my adventure with her was always on edge. She is, indeed a great actress, but I can't be so sure about her director performance. In the end,  I loved her on "Ten Inch Hero" ( as Jen, 2007 romantic comedy) as an act...

Airplane Mode (2020) Movie Review

Image
It's Like A Lot Of Things You've Seen Before                                                                             image by Amazon.com, lnc. A safe option for all movie makers for sure; shooting a low budget cliche, and just letting the people watch it for what it reminds. "Airplane Mode " is using exactly that option. It uses a popular topic, and put it in a concept that has been tried possibly hundreds of times. Put the selfish one in a farm middle of nowhere, lets see if the monster stay as a monster, or become a newborn angel. Now, let's see how did it go. The movie is about Ana, an influencer on a social media platform. She is just a selfish rich kid, using the infinite loophole of social media to make some money. But also, she's more of an addict, ...

All The Bright Places (2020) Movie Review

Image
A Successful Adaptation For Sure                                                                                      image by Amazon.com, lnc. Based on the book with the same title, "All The Bright Places" is a teen drama that goes real hard on the viewer. It has the potential to make a grown, 20 year old, male viewer cry. So general viewer, just be prepared, onions are on the loose. Starring Elle Fanning and Justice Smith, this teen drama doesn't include anything teen-y really. Our heroes, Violet and Finch are just two kid with grown up problems. Movie starts with Violet, standing on the ledge of a bridge, of the bridge actually. Just as she is thinking about jumping, Theodore (Finch, he calls himself) talks her out of it. That's th...

The Half Of It (2020) Movie Review

Image
A Successful Display Of Love                                                                                        image by Amazon.com, lnc. Wow, it has been ages since the last time I saw a teen rom-com that doesn't include a princess image. Therefore, even before starting the review, I must say, I was impressed about a lot of things in this movie. Sit back and relax people, after a long thread of disappointment, this will be a positive review! "The Half Of It" follows a smart, caring, but in need of money teen Ellie Chu. Ellie is a girl, but a grown up mind. She's no princess, and she is not intending to be, or acting to be. Which makes her role much more realistic and close to heart than most of the teen romance characters in o...

The Perfect Date (2019) Movie Review

Image
I Liked The Poster?                                                                               image by Amazon.com, lnc. Alright, so in this teen movie, we have a teenager gentleman trying out for Harvard. As expected, he needs an essay for application to get in. Well, he thinks that's no a big deal, he writes an essay, add all the things he know will work. He tells them about all the fancy student clubs he's part of, the ones he joined to make his application look cooler. Seems like the perfect candidate. Yet, his counselor doesn't like it, and tell him to try again, and try to be a more interesting person this time. That would be good for the viewer as well, thank you counselor. Our hero, Brooks Rattigan, is actually quite the entrepreneur in heart...

A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019) Movie Review

Image
This Is A Movie, It Seems                                                                                 image by Amazon.com, lnc. Honestly, I lost count on this movies. How many are there really? Anyways, as the title says, this is a cinderella story, not so different then her other stories. "A Cinderalla Story : Christmas Wish" follows our teen, who is subject of an interior abuse in her family, well, step family. If you know Cinderella's story, then you might as well just know what exactly will happen in the end without really watching it, at all. The movie has some positives, yet a lot of negatives. So in this review, the positives will get paragraphs of their own, while the negatives will be in a one long paragraph or two. First of all, the or...

Let It Snow (2019) Movie Review

Image
It Was Good, Until It Wasn't                                                                                                                    image by Amazon.com, lnc. "Let It Snow" with it's young, but promising cast is a teen comedy set in Christmas. First of all,the movie doesn't present more than the "teens in snowing Christmas, friendships in danger movies" we know before that one. Though actually, that's not the problem because in the end, I already didn't expect a miracle out of this title before watching it. It's already such a Christmas movie cliche, so I was pretty okay with the environment at the very beginning, which was -not sur...

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) Movie Review

Image
A Title Easy To Forget                                                                                                                     image by Amazon.com, lnc. The movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is one of Appatow's productions, therefore has a pretty classic vibe going. A guy, who is not really confident, somehow gets the attention of a beautiful woman, and gets lost without her. It's easy to predict you are gonna laugh before watching it, considering the previous ones from Appatow (like Superbad, which was one of the best teen movies in my opinion) But is it really enough for this movie to be just funny? Well, the answer is no,...
