Nothing Special, Nothing Fun

"The Wrong Missy" is a cheesy comedy, just like the ones before it. The new Netflix wanna-be comedy doesn't offer you much after the trailer, except for the same old story, first date gone wild type of romantic comedy. But is it worth a watch?

First of all, I must mention right away that I just can't like the plot tricks so many comedies (first of all the Sandler ones) tried, and failed every time. Adding supernatural events, meaningless side characters and dialogues that make no sense whatsoever, just to make the comedy more goofy. It indeed is a safe option, but just doesn't make a good movie. How is that related to this one? Well let me explain. The film follows the chilling adventures of our couple, including but not limited to, fighting sharks. Our characters are more of immortal joke machines than a funny human being, which makes them annoying more than all. These basically are the reasons what make me categorize this with the formula movies I mentioned. Same as always, the formula fails to work.

The plot is very weak, story is expanding way too slow, and very much without any character development. Most of the characters don't have backgrounds in any meaning, which makes you question who are they, and what are they doing on the scene. Some scenes just add nothing to the movie except confusion, since they include things related with some of the sub stories, yet the movie follows none. Characters, except for our heroes, have no reason to live, except fulfilling our story expectations, which makes them look like decor.

The movie is not that funny by itself,so to make it more "funny" it mostly includes meaningless, offensive and/or sexist jokes. Which is not that surprising, since we all know it just sells! Anyways, moving on. The characters are so clear and typical at least, we just know what they will do, how they will mess things up and fix it later. Story is an open book, you can see all of the story lined up in your head after the very first scenes. All these make the movie feel like much longer than it is.

Technically, the shooting method is nothing unusual for Spindel. Yet,there was a tiny scene with a change of the camera angle in the end, which was a fantastic touch, I must add, it was a good way to express director's social opinion. Lighting is not so different in any scenes, all light bombed, which made me lower the brightness in some scenes. Soundtracks are well enough for a comedy, yet is not able to save this one for sure.

In the end, "The Wrong Missy" is not revolution, not unforgettable and sadly not even that much fun to watch. It fails to make you remember it by being not so different than any other goofy comedy. Clearly the wrong attempt.
